The Electrical Labourer card is for individuals working in a supportive role, assisting qualified electricians with cable installation and other unskilled tasks.

Work Scope: Labourers assist with work under direct supervision but are not permitted to carry out electrical craft work.2 This card is a vital first step for those who do not yet meet the full qualification requirements for a Gold Card.

 


How to Qualify: Two Main Routes

Depending on your current qualifications, you will follow either Route 1 or Route 2.

Route 1: For those with Electrical Theory Qualifications

If you already hold a JIB-approved theory qualification, your path is simple:

  1. Technical Proof: Submit a copy of your Level 2 or Level 3 certificate (e.g., C&G 2365, 2330, 2360, or EAL equivalents).

  2. Safety Proof: Hold a valid ECS Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) Assessment.

Route 2: For those without Electrical Qualifications

If you do not hold an electrical theory qualification, we require you to complete the following steps:
1- ECS One Day Online Course
You must successfully complete:

  • ECS One Day Online Course which will make you eligible for the ECS Electrical Labourer/Mate Card without qualification certificates.

    Note-
    If you choose to take the One-Day Online Health & Safety Course, the assessment is included. You do not need to sit a separate Health and Safety Assessment.

2- Proof of Industry Engagement: You must provide evidence that you are working in the industry, such as:

    • An employer reference or contract of employment.

    • A recent payslip from an electrotechnical business.

    • Proof of enrollment in an electrical training course.


JIB-Approved Level 2 & 3 Qualifications

The following certificates are recognized for Route 1:

  • City & Guilds: 2330, 2365-02 (Level 2), 2365-03 (Level 3), 8202-20, or 8202-30.

  • EAL: Level 2/3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation.8

  • T-Levels: Building Services Engineering or Construction pathways.9

  • Note: The 18th Edition (BS 7671) is not accepted as a substitute for these theory qualifications.
